Social engineering – among main attack trends for 2010
Posted on December 4, 2009 in Misc, Security2009 was a tough year considering not only the technology course but also the political and economical environment. Regarding the online security we can all agree that was a very productive year from the point of malware and online attacks. For example Conficker worm has reached the top in 2009 being installed remotely on computers all over the world.
Now regarding 2010, the security guru, Symantec, predict that “Scareware” (fake antivirus software) will continue rising, together with Shortened URLs directing people to infected websites. On the other hand, due to increasing number of smartphones users it is expected that mobile security to be also a concern in the next year.
With all this, the surprise is the increasing number of social engineering attacks. Attackers are pointing directly to the end-user trying to trick them into downloading viruses, malware applications, or to get private information.
