If you are here reading this post then you might be interested in other posts like top free hide ip software or top web proxy sites.

Now, regarding VPNs, these are great to use if you want to be anonymous not only when you are browsing but also when you are using any kind of applications: browsers, chat clients, e-mail, etc.

1. The most known and used VPN is Hotspot Shield. I reviewed this application before so let’s move forward and see which other free VPNs we can use.

2. UltraVPN is a free VPN powered by the community. The application encrypts and anonymizes the network connection allowing users through its simple interface to connect or disconnect to VPN servers. For any enquiries and support related to the application’s functionalities, users can join to the forum dedicated to this VPN: .

Using UltraVPN you can:

  • unblock websites
  • connect or log in into MSN if it’s blocked
  • use VoIP software like Skype if it’s blocked

3. AlonWeb provides a secure connection, hides your real IP address and encrypts the transferred data (correspondence, passwords, sent files). The application allows users to access blocked websites (Facebook, Myspace, chat rooms) and encrypt data protecting your personal information, even in public places and unsecured networks. The application provides you Dutch, Panamanian, American or any other IP address.

The disadvantage is that AlonWeb has a premium version, which is paid, and there are significant differences between these versions. For example, the free version does not support VoIP, proxy server, P2P and there are many banner ads injected.

4. The free VPN JAP makes it possible to surf the internet anonymously and unobservable.

Using JAP, you are “connecting with encryption through several intermediaries, so-called Mixes. JAP uses a predetermined sequence for the mixes. Such a sequence of linked mixes is called a Mix Cascade.” The application provides such a security that no one, not even the provider of the intermediary service can determine which connection belong to which user.

5. Loki Network Project is free VPN service and SSL based free VPN server. As all other VPNs, this one provides online anonymity while sending e-mails, accessing web sites, uploaded/downloaded files etc. The application disables various network sniffers to intercept your data, allows you to bypass traffic interception, and analyses on corporate, ISP or even country level firewall.

If you have any other suggestions or if you know a good free VPN that deserves attention please let me know and I will update this list.
