Will Internet censorship be applied in Germany?

Posted on June 17, 2009 in Misc, Security

In the beginnings, Internet censorship was applied in China, but we didn’t care because we were not affected. Later, another country where Internet censorship was applied was Australia and again we were indifferent. Now it seems that this trend is invading Europe. Internet censorship is on verge to be applied in Germany.

An official online petition titled „No indexing and blocking of Internet sites“ gathered within three days 50,000 signatures, the number required by a petition to be heard by the Parliament. “The running time of an e-Petition in Germany is 6 weeks – within this time over 130,000 people signed making this e-Petition the most signed and most successful ever.”(Source)

Over 500 people carrying banners to get attention about the unfair act of taking the freedom of the information were protesting during the government’s official press conference. More than that, they gave solutions on how to deal with child pornography without introducing the censorship architecture.

Even if there were many protests, it seems that a list containing the content desired to be censored in future is already being made by the politicians.
