“Blanket ban” for Blogger in China
Posted on May 26, 2009 in Misc, SecurityIt seems that after banning YouTube and many other important information resources for Internet users, China has decided to ban blogs from Blogger.com for two weeks. It is called the “blanket ban” and the majority believes that it’s related to the 20th anniversary of the Tiananmen Square incident. There are also other ideas as others wonder if this is a technical difficulty as hinted on Blogger’s known issues page.
The ban affects blogs hosted on the blogspot.com sub domain and their number s not small, just about 275 million. The action started on 16th May and it’s considered to be ended on 4th June. Under this restriction, users are spreading the words through Twitter and are searching for different ways to access and post on their blogs.
At this moment one of the most popular solutions to post on blogs are: post by email and auto-post via Facebook.
Blogger has offered the “Mail to Blogger” service which allows bloggers to publish new posts while on the move. Using this features, posts will be automatically post. An alternative is Posterous – which will email your articles to blogger@posterous.com and they will auto-post the message to your blog. Regarding Facebook, there is an app which enables you to update blog from your Facebook profile automatically.
On the other hand, for users who would like to read posts from banned blogs the solutions are:
- translate the banned blogs
- subscribe to banned blogs through their RSS reader
If you know more methods to post or read banned blogs, do a good thing and share your ideas in the comment section below. We appreciate everyone’s suggestions.
