School proxy – 90.500 searches per month
Posted on April 27, 2009 in IP Hider, Misc, SecurityThis post idea came in my mind while these days, I realized the amount of proxy websites with titles: Unblock Meebo, Facebook, Orkut any many other networking sites. I thought that if there are so many, it must be a great request on the market. So I started a little research. It seems that the idea of having the internet access restricted does not comply with our teens expectations and that’s the reason why they keep searching for solutions to bypass internet filter either they are at school or at home.
Thanks to Google Keyword Tool I could easily get some results related the top keywords used to search for bypassing solutions. On the top is “school proxy” which is searched for 90.500 per month. “Bypass school filter” has a global monthly search volume of 3.600 while “Bypass school” searches is situated somewhere in the middle with a monthly volume of 33.100 searches. Surprisingly “unblock meebo” have only 1.600 searches while “proxy meebo” have 4.400. Even so, these researches represent only a small percent of the amount found over the internet. Forums are flooded with questions related to hide IP address solutions, related to unblock sites and bypass censorship solutions. And there are not only children searching for these, but also employees that want to bypass internet filter within the company they work or citizens who lives in country where internet censorship is exaggerate.
In fact what everyone is looking for is the online liberty that has been taken from them. On the other hand we can ask ourselves: can we expect to have liberty if we are at school or at work and we use someone else’s resources? Do we deserve this right?
