How to send emails anonymously

Posted on April 14, 2009 in IP Hider, Misc, Security

For the users asking themselves why there is the need to send an email anonymously, the answer comes in an older post that I wrote related to abuses over emails addresses. There are many ways hackers and scammers can take your private information and further use it for their own good.

As I said many times before, an email is neither anonymous nor private. An advanced user can easily check out the IP address for where the e-mail was send and other details related to your location. More than that, it is even possible to read that email, to find who sent it and to whom it is addressed.

Tips and tricks to sent an e-mail anonymously

Use remailers. “A remailer is an address through which an electronic message passes before continuing the rest of its journey to its actual destination.” (Source)
Using only a remailer, your traces are not deleted because the remailer will have information about you, but if your message is chained to another remailer than your traces will be deleted providing you complete anonymity.

Anonymous Email Services. Using these services you can sent the emails through a web interface. The operation is very easy and provides you the privacy you need.

If you don’t need to be completely anonymous, you can only change the IP address when you are sending the email. In this way you protect your information but the receiver still knows who the sender is.

If you have meet unpleasant situations regarding email abuse, describe and advice in the comments below so that everybody to be aware of online dangers.
