The Downadup virus infects millions PCs
Posted on January 28, 2009 in Security
Downandup, also known as Kido Conficker is a worm that spreads through networks with low security, storage media and computers without the latest security updates.
The virus spreads through vulnerability in Windows Server, which connects the operating system Vista, XP and 2000. Since it was first identified in October last year, progress seems unstoppable.
The security company F-Secure reported that “nearly nine million computers were compromised on Friday 16th at 2PM GMT, a near four fold increase in 100 hours or so, that’s roughly 67700 new PCs turning to Zombies every hour (or 1.625 million per day)”.( Source )
The virus can spread using different methods and one includes the use of recently patched vulnerability in Windows Server Service. Through the problems generated by the worm we find the locking network users out of their accounts. Once this worm infects a machine, it protects itself very aggressively.
F-Secure have released a free tool that can remove known versions of Downadup. The tool is also available for download on their website.

Hi, I read your blog from time to time and I own a similar one and I was just wondering if you get a ton of spam? If so how do you control it, any plugin or something you can suggest? I get so much it’s driving me insane so any help is much appreciated.

There is a free plug-in for Word Press named Akismet that is blocking all the spam messages. You can read more here: http://akismet.com/
Good luck
